Fire in Abu Dhabi destroys 7 houses

A fire broke out yesterday at a housing site for workers in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, resulting in the gutting of seven houses, without the loss of any life.

The Chief of the Department for Information and Public Relations at the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi said that civil defence immediately responded to a call from the operations room at 3.35pm, according to an 'Emarat Al Youm' report.

Four civil defence teams moved to Al Wathba and Baniyas east along with a Rapid Intervention Unit, and began to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading to other houses.

Investigations are still under way to ascertain the cause of the blaze.

Air support was also involved, with ‘live’ images from the air being sent to decision-makers on the ground.
