To mark World Health Day, a medical group in the UAE is offering free medical checks for UAE residents on Thursday.

Mediclinic Middle East will be offering free blood cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI and blood pressure tests.

This year, the theme of World Health Day is 'Beat Diabetes', a goal which is of particular significance for the UAE which has an extremely high rate of the disease.

“Type 2 diabetes is largely a preventable and treatable disease with simple lifestyle measures such as healthy diet and moderate levels of exercise. Still, however, diabetes is a serious problem in the region. Through our series of free health check-ups, we hope to raise awareness of the risk factors for diabetes and encourage those with concerns to seek medical help in order to prevent the onset of diabetes,” said Dr Pietie Loubser, Chief Clinical Officer, Mediclinic Middle East.

The organisers say residents can walk in, and no prior appointment is needed.
