The Abu Dhabi police have arrested six Georgians and one Filipina on charges of stealing expensive watches and jewellery from rich families while they were not at home.

Two Pakistani men were also nabbed in a similar burglary case in the emirate.
Police said the first ring targeted wealthy houses and posed as maintenance workers to make sure the victims are rich enough for their adventure.

After raiding their hideout in Dubai, police recovered all the stolen items looted from many houses in Abu Dhabi and also seized a smelting machine used by the thieves to turn burgled jewelry into ingots for easy marketing or smuggling out of the UAE.

“They used to go the apartment or house posing as maintenance workers. Once inside, they checked if the residents are wealthy or not. They then leave after putting a small mark so they would come back and carry out their operation,” said Brigadier Maktoum Al Shareefi, Director of the Capital Police.

He said police started investigating such burglaries after receiving reports from many residents, adding that the thieves were finally trapped and arrested. He said all the stolen items, worth more than Dh1 million, were recovered.

Shareefi said police also busted another robbery ring including two Pakistani men—a driver and an illegal migrant. He said the two had also targeted wealthy houses and hid the stolen jewelry and other items at a farm in Khatm area outside the capital.
