2.4 million people enrolled with Eida last year
A total of 2.4 million emiratis and expatriates registered in the population register and ID card programme in 2011 compared to 1.1 million in 2010, according to figures released by the Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) in its annual report for 2011.
The 178-page report said Eida last year delivered 2.77 million ID cards to their owners against 1.26 million in 2010.
In a foreword under the title ''2012 : Towards Delivery of Goals'', Dr Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Eida director-general, said the report offered a fresh opportunity for Eida to analyse its experiment and learn lessons so as to address challenges with the aim of realising Eida’s 2010-2013 strategic plan with full transparency.
Eida's project includes the establishment of a modern population register in order to facilitate government services for the people and provide information for decision making by the government.
