Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has participated in the Think Science 2017 fair as a gold sponsor. Organised by Emirates Foundation under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Cabinet Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Chairman of the Emirates Foundation, the Think Science Fair is the largest scientific event in the region.

The event was held from 18-20 April 2017 at Dubai World Trade Centre in partnership with a number of government and private institutions and the media.

This supports the leadership’s vision to achieve a knowledge-based economy, and enhance youth creativity and scientific innovation, and is part of DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility.

HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Transport Department, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and Managing Director of Emirates Foundation, visited DEWA’s stand at the exhibition.

DEWA highlighted its latest technologies, developments, and scientific and engineering innovations in energy, water and renewable energy, in addition to DEWA’s ongoing research and development.

"Our initiatives and programmes are inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who once observed that, ‘Our responsibility is to prepare generations for future and our ambitions are to have scientists who contribute to the progress of mankind’.

Think Science Fair 2017 is an ideal platform for youth all over the UAE to present their projects and ideas and compete with each other, and to meet scientist and experts to benefit and learn from their experience and knowledge.

The event is an opportunity for many leading government and private scientific and technology organisations to participate in interactive scientific activities and present their latest scientific innovations and research.

This further supports the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to shift towards a knowledge-based economy and harness science and technology to best serve humanity and enhance services,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"This acclaimed scientific event has helped discover Emirati scientific talents early, so that we can support and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to become prominent thinkers and scientists in their respective fields.

DEWA’s participation and sponsorship of this event is part of its efforts to support innovation and creativity among youth, and discover young talent. We constantly work on developing youth skills in science and technology to achieve the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a home for creative citizens, who are full of pride and happiness,” added Al Tayer.

“We prioritise continued development based on the latest technologies and innovations, to realise our strategic objectives and achieve sustainability. We strive to promote a smart transformation and support the Smart Dubai Initiative to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world, and the 10x initiative to make Dubai city of the future.

DEWA supports the National Innovation Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world, and the Dubai Innovation Strategy, approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world.

Innovation is a deep-rooted culture in all DEWA’s operations and services, with innovation comprising 40% of DEWA’s 2021 strategy,” concluded Al Tayer.

Think Science Fair 2017 included a national competition to discover scientific talents among school and university students, and enable them to innovate and create beyond the boundaries of school curricula.

It also had a scientific forum to support young talent and create an opportunity for permanent interaction between youth and scientific and economic leaders in the UAE.
