250 law violators including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers were nabbed by Dubai Municipality inspectors in cooperation with Dubai Police, during November 2012.

Mr. Obeid Ibrahim Marzouqi, Head of Markets Management Section at Dubai Municipality announced the move against law-breakers. Several low-quality goods and pirated CDs were seized.

“Civic inspectors conduct daily spot checks in streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing in public places by individuals in violation of the ruling by the Ministry of Labour in this regard. Inspectors at the Control Unit of the Markets Administration Section in the Assets Management Department carry out regular checks to take action against the violators,” Ibrahim said.

“Last month, they caught 140 street vendors, 85 beggars, 23 car washers and two illegal butchers and fish cleaners,” he said.

“A total of 522 counterfeit products were seized including 250 ready-made garments, 263 foodstuff items, eight alcoholic drinks and one illegal fund collection in addition to 2.2 ton of contaminated food” he added.

The law-breakers, who belong to various nationalities, would be handed over to the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department for deportation in coordination with Dubai Police.
