Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, has slammed statements made by Mahmoud Gazlan, spokesperson of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood Movement, regarding UAE as "irresponsible" and don't advance efforts being made by the GCC and Egypt to further bolstering longstanding bilateral ties.

"What affects the UAE affects all GCC member states," Al Zayani said, noting these remarks disregard the UAE hosting of Arabs and its efforts to advocate Arab causes.

He added the GCC condemns these statements as "inconsistent" to all efforts and attempts aimed at unifying Arab and Muslim ranks.

Sheikh Abdullah says UAE is waiting for clarification

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, said that the UAE is waiting for a clear clarification from the Egyptian government on the statements made by Muslim Brotherhood Spokesperson Mahmoud Gazlan.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on his official Twitter account that the Egyptian government has been asked to for an explanation.

He said on Twitter: “The statements of Gazlan reflect the bad intention and Egypt never deserved such beliefs,” Arabic newspaper Emarat Al Youm reported.

Earlier in March, Dubai's police chief, Dhahi Khalfan, announced on his official Twitter account that he intended to issue an international arrest warrant against Yousuf Al Qaradawy, Head of International Institute for Muslim Scientists, after statements made by the latter against leaders of the UAE.

Muslim Brotherhood Spokesperson Mahmoud Gazlan said in a statement on Friday that the Emirates "would not dare" arrest Al Qaradawy, further adding that the announcement by Dubai's police commander in chief was a "disgrace".

Gazlan also said that if the UAE arrests Al Qaradawy, "not only the Muslim Brotherhood will act, but the entire Muslim world will act against the Emirates," adding that criticism Al Qaradawy directed against Emirates authorities is "all true".
