Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has undertaken to pay the financial liabilities of 15 Emirati prisoners, whose total debts crossed Dh14 million.
The kind gesture is aimed to release the prisoners who are serving terms for not paying their financial liabilities to various claimants.
The gesture came in response to a call by the Emirates 24|7 sister publication, Dubai-based newspaper 'Emarat Al Youm' to help to get 40 citizens released from prisons as part of the humanitarian activities launched to mark the 40th anniversary of UAE National Day.
The initiative floated by the Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) could hit its target within ten days of its first call.
The Crown Prince commended this achievement and urged the corporate sector to participate in similar programmes as part of their social responsibility.
