President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan lauded on Wednesday the fraternal ties between the UAE and Kuwait as "deep" and bilateral cooperation as "constructive" under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

"We are always eager to meet with Kuwaiti brethren and to elevate the scale of joint cooperation to match that of brotherhood bonds so as to better serve mutual interests and consolidate the GCC joint action," Sheikh Khalifa said as he welcomed at Al Rawdha Palace visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

Sheikh Khalifa said the visit would produce important results that would further strengthen fraternal ties between the two countries.

For his part, the Kuwaiti premier said he was delighted at visiting the UAE and had the honour of meeting Sheikh Khalifa.

"The State of Kuwait harbours high esteem and respect for the leadership, government and people of the UAE for their honourable stances towards Kuwaiti people and for the UAE's leading role in promoting and establishing principles of the GCC," Sheikh Nasser said.

Sheikh Khalifa and his Kuwaiti guest discussed bilateral ties and reviewed latest developments at the Gulf, Arab and international arenas.

The meeting was attended by a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

The Kuwaiti premier arrived here earlier in the day as part of a Gulf tour.

He was greeted at the airport by Lt.General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and a group of sheikhs, ministers and top officials.
