Ministry of Environment suspends quarry in Fujairah over violations

The Ministry of Environment and Water has suspended work at a quarry at Al Taween area in the Emirate of Fujairah, in coordination with the local authority, on charges of violating regulations.

Sultan bin Alwan, Assistant Under-Secretary for External Audit at the Ministry, said, "The suspension decision was prompted by the violation of a Cabinet resolution issued in 2008 on streamlining the activities of quarries and quarantines, and the ministerial resolution on the guidelines regulating firms operating in the quarry business."

He added that the ministry was keen on inspecting quarries to ensure they comply with regulations in this respect, noting that suspended quarries would not be allowed to resume work until they rectify violations.

Since the beginning of this year, 14 quarries have been closed over the violations of rules.
