His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the launch of the 5th Global Agenda Summit, held under his patronage, at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Monday.
The inaugural session of the three-day summit, which will last until November 14, was also attended by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al Zayyani, Dr. Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), a host of dignitaries , ministers , heads and directors of government departments and institutions as well as economists, media and cultural personalities.
The summit sees the participation of more than 1,000 foremost experts, intellectuals and decision-makers from over 80 countries, including the UAE.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Schwab thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his patronage of the summit and attendance, hailing his wise leadership that has made Dubai an international city par excellence and a model to be traced in the various fields as well as innovations that affected all aspects of life.
Dr. Schwab emphasized that the fifth summit, like the previous ones, is inspired by Sheikh Mohammed’s wise leadership and farsighted and analytical vision for the future. He also praised the UAE’s effective contribution and affirmative participation in the various international meetings, conferences, dialogues which contribute to exchanging viewpoints among world countries to come out with perspectives and useful solutions for most economic, social and other problems , noting the UAE wise leadership headed by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed.
Representing the UAE at the inaugural session of the summit, the UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri expressed the UAE’s warm welcome for the holding of this important event in the UAE, particularly in Dubai for the fifth consecutive year, highlighting the partnership between the Government of the UAE and Davos Forum and the UAE’s know-how and competence in hosting and organising such international conferences.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash delivered a speech in which he indicated that the UAE adopts a policy that depends on boosting world cooperation and enhancing ties with countries and peoples of the world.
Dubai Department of Economic Development Director General Samy Dhaen Al Qamzi stressed that the UAE and Dubai are still the best world place to live and work in despite the world economic crises , pointing out that the main sectors in Dubai have formed the cornerstone in positioning Dubai as an international centre. He also hailed Dubai’s ability to attract more foreign investment as Dubai’s example in excellence, innovation and development, he said, is based on ambition and sound vision to build a modern city capable of competing internationally.
At the close of the inaugural session, Sheikh Mohammed, accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikh Maktoum and the attendees, toured part of the exhibition held on the sideline of the summit. Sheikh Mohammed stopped at the pavilion of the 3rd Annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit presented by Entrepreneurial Ventures of Arabia, to be held at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) in December before visiting World Expo 2020 pavilion.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed happiness meeting this multi-international and cultural elite in the UAE, and in Dubai in particular, underscoring the UAE’s pride over hosting the Summit on Global Agenda 2012’ in cooperation with and partnership between our government and Davos Forum, emphasising the country’s commitment to enhancing and strengthening the spirit of international citizenship and supporting means of dialogue to stand firm against the various challenges facing the world.
Meeting with various personalities participating in this international event, Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the UAE is always in the vanguard of countries supporting the philosophy of international dialogue and deepening this culture to serve humanity and augment economic and social development, both regionally and internationally.
