UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE) in Abu Dhabi and reviewed its initiatives, strategies and activities in spreading the tolerant teachings of Islam.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by GAIAE Chairman Dr Hamdan bin Musalam Al Mazrouei and Director General Dr Mohammed Matar Al Kaabi about the activities undertaken by the authority to instill values of tolerance and moderation.

He also reviewed GAIAE's strategy for mosques, Haj and Omrah, as well as the endowments. According to the presentations made, the GAIAE has 4,000 employees in 11 centres distributed across the UAE.

The presentation made also highlighted GAIAE's drive to attract UAE national Imams, Muadhens and mosque inspectors to serve the country's 4,750 mosques.

The GAIAE also provides extensive training in oration to the UAE nationals studying Sharia. Dr Al Mazrouei said the Friday prayer sermon is delivered in English and Urdu in 65 mosques.

Sheikh Mohammed viewed a model for the GAIAE's 53 Quran memorisation centres in the UAE. A group of children enrolled in the centres read verses of holy Quran which they memorised at the centres.

Sheikh Mohammed also toured the official Fatwa centre and was briefed on the services offered there by 40 certified Muftis.

Sheikh Mohammed met with a number of Islamic scholars and exchanged Ramadan greetings with them. He praised the role played by the scholars in spreading messages of fraternity, amity and tolerance.
