Mohammed bin Zayed receives Irish PM

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received on Wednesday afternoon at Al Mamoura, the visiting Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny and the delegation accompanying him.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi welcomed the Irish Prime Minister and the delegation accompanying, hoping that the visit would further strengthen the friendship and cooperation ties between the UAE and the Republic of Ireland.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed and Kenny discussed the cooperation ties and importance of strengthening them to serve mutual interest in all sectors, especially in the areas of education, economy and investment. They stressed the need for developing the existing ties through more coordination and economic and scientific partnerships.

The two sides tackled the latest regional and international developments as well as views on issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Foreign Minister, Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, head of the mission of honour accompanying the Irish Prime Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under Secretary of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi's Court, Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, Patrick Hennessy, Irish Ambassador to UAE, and a number of officials. 

Irish PM hails UAE-Ireland economic partnership

Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny has stressed that his country is looking forward to establishing stronger cooperation, economic and investment partnerships with the private sector firms in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

He commended the progress and huge achievements attained by the UAE and Emirate of Abu Dhabi in a number of fields.

Addressing the Abu Dhabi–Irish Investment Forum organised by the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) in cooperation with the Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi, the Irish Business Council, and the Irish Projects Foundation, Kenny noted that his government has decided to open an office to promote the Irish investments in Abu Dhabi city. He added that the step would  help expand areas of cooperation between Irish companies and others operating in Abu Dhabi, as well as transfer expertise and cutting-edge technology to serve the economic development process in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. 

The Irish Prime Minister said the Irish economic delegation, composed of 50 people, which represents the most important sectors operating in the Republic of Ireland, especially in the sectors of industry, finance, construction, healthcare and biotechnology, IT and telecommunications sector, aviation, education and training, seeks to enhance and strengthen its cooperation with companies and institutions in Abu Dhabi.

He also stressed that his tour represents a strong start to forging the strategic economic relations in all fields with institutions in the UAE.

Kenny noted that Ireland had overcome the challenges during the global financial crisis and made a significant progress in its diversified economy, especially in the field of knowledge economy.

He also stressed that the representatives of Irish companies accompanying him are willing to share their experiences and cooperate with UAE companies in the areas of technology.

The Irish Prime Minister welcomed UAE’s investments in Ireland in the wake of the recovery of the Irish economy. He said that his country has developed the laws to protect the foreign investments, adding that Dublin has become home to silicon projects and knowledge projects.

He said that the Irish delegation will work in a spirit of partnership to achieve fruitful cooperation with the UAE in the best interest of the peoples of the two countries.  Kenny underlined that the Irish companies are fully prepared to put all their experience to achieve the Abu Dhabi 2030 strategic vision and UAE vision for 2021. Kenny welcomed the visit planned by the ADCCI delegation to Ireland.

The forum was attended by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, the Irish Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, Mohammed Thani Murshid Al Rumaithi, Chairman of Federation of the UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and a number of officials.

Al Rumaithi called for developing the trade and economic ties, and strengthening communication between the businesspersons in both countries. He added that both UAE and Abu Dhabi economies have increased the economic growth rates, thanks to the wise policies of UAE leadership.

He urged the Irish technology companies to set up projects in sectors of industry, healthcare services, education, Telecommunications and IT in cooperation with the local companies.

On his part, Ghobash welcomed the high profile Irish delegation, wishing them good stay in the UAE, noting that the forum is a platform for strengthening the relations between the UAE and Ireland.

The event concluded with a detailed demonstration of investment opportunities, climate and prerogatives provided by the Irish government to companies and foreign investors.

Irish Prime Minister visits Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The visiting Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny paid a visit on Wednesday to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (SZGM), where was received by Yousuf Al Obaidly, director of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Kenny and his accompanying delegation visited the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, adjacent to the mosque. They also counted his merits, values and wise approach, which contributed to the culture of tolerance, coexistence and peace among various peoples of the world.

Then the Irish Prime Minister toured the mosque, where he was briefed on the Islamic architecture.

They also visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Library and were briefed on its books, manuscripts, rare encyclopedias in various branches of the Islamic civilisation, in addition to its arts and sciences.

The Irish official hailed the mosque's magnificent structure that entices visitors from various nationalities, stressing that the mosque has a pioneering cultural role that works to further increase the mutual understanding between the peoples of different civilisations.
