Mohammed launches community website; UAE to monitor loans

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,  on Tuesday inaugurated ''Ehtmam'', a website launched by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs on the sidelines of the Government Summit in Dubai.

UAE citizens can log in to the website and submit suggestions and ideas aimed at development of local community and those constructive and feasible one will be implemented to improve government services at par with the highest standards.

Sheikh Mohammed along with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on Tuesday attended the second day of the summit.

 During the summit, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, addressed a number of national development agenda, enumerated achievements by the Ministerial Council for Services and its future plans to improve performance of federal ministries and bring ministers more closer to people.

Shiekh Mansour spoke about Absher Initiative, launched by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to increase participation of Emiratis in the private sector.

He disclosed that Debt Settlement Fund paid debts of 3,500 Emirati defaulters worth about Dh4 billion in 2012-2013. He lauded banks that cooperated with the initiative.

Sheikh Mansour said that the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of the UAE were conducting a legal study on how to introduce effective mechanism to supervise banking activities, such as monitoring of loans. The matter needs review and update of some laws and regulations of the banking sector, he added.

Sheikh Mansour also highlighted the vital role of Abu Dhabi Development Fund (ADFD) in offering development aid to  sisterly and friendly countries with the aim of improving living standards and generating job opportunities.

The fund, he added, has so far extended Dh6 billion for development projects and long-term soft loans to Arab and friendly countries.

There is a plan to raise the ADFD's capital to Dh 16 billion and open the door for funding projects within the UAE.

On the mandatory military service law, Sheikh Mansour emphasised that the issue had received overwhelming enthusiasm from the young Emiratis, especially girls who demanded to be treated on equal footing with their male peers.

The youth have a sacred national duty towards their homeland, leadership and people and they are worthy of shouldering this responsibility with all confidence and zeal because they recognise the importance of training and qualifying human being to be fully ready to defend his nation's gains, independence and sovereignty.

On how to meet growing demand for water and power, the minister called for conducting a comprehensive study to ensure regular provision of these vital services.

''We need a ten-year study to be carried out by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority to supply concerned emirates with their needs away from squandering these natural resources,'' he explained.

Sheikh Mansour noted that the health sector receives top place on the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's priorities.

Citing a UAE role model of invention, innovation and excellence, Sheikh Mansour said Hawa Mohammed Al Mansouri, who obtained the President's scholarship to study medicine in the University of George Washington, US, has got a patent for inventing a catheter, the first of its kind. Dr. Al Mansouri is planning to open a plant in the UAE and US to manufacture this medical device.

Turning to politics, Sheikh Mansour said that he was not in favour of the term ''Arab Spring'', saying that ''Any how they are popular revolutions ...... we hoped if they progressed on the right track and delivered their aspired goals in change. Regrettably, some countries experienced destruction and we in the UAE wish these sisterly countries and people stability and socio-economic development in a peaceful, secure condition,'' he added.

Mohammed receives Arab ministers participating in Government Summit

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE  and Ruler of Dubai, received on Tuesday Arab ministers participating in the Government Summit in Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed and his guests exchanged talks on agenda of the three-day summit and its significant role  of the summit as a global platform for sharing ideas and experiences especially for Arab countries which look at the UAE as a role model for transforming conventional government into a smart one in governance and delivery of best services to clients in a smooth, convenient, friendly and civilised manner.

Some Arab ministers proposed the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid school of management given the advanced international standards the UAE and Dubai have reached in provision of premium government services and administrative facilities as well as respect for clients.

The ministers also commended the Government Summit as the first Arab and international platform for sharing and discussing creative ideas for creating a better future government and achieving social, health, cultural, educational and economic development through e-transformation.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that the UAE is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to make its people more happier and contribute in assisting sisterly and friendly countries to  develop and improve management and government services and reach highest standards in this respect.

''Our state extends its helping hand and opens its doors wide for brothers and friends who would like to follow our path we set for ourselves out of the belief that the dignity of the nation is derived from that of its people and vice versa,'' he added.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Government Summit, and a number of senior officials.

16 judges sworn in before Mohammed bin Rashid

Sixteen judges in Dubai courts were sworn in on Tuesday before His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Judicial Council, attended the oath-taking ceremony of two judges of the Cassation Court, and 14 judges of the Court of First Instance. The judges pledged to uphold the rule of law and justice with full integrity, loyalty and diligence.

Sheikh Mohammed urged the judges to administer justice among litigants, maintain patience, honesty and transparency away from any personal interests.

Present were Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Judicial Council, Essam Al Huimaidan, Dubai Attorney General, Yousef Mohammed Al Matawa, Chairman of Dubai Courts, and a number of top judicial officials.
