Mohammed tours RTA and DTCM

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, accompanied by Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, today visited Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

During his tour of the RTA, Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the authority’s various projects and strategic plans related to implementing roads and bridges networks as well as the main axes of development in Dubai road network in order to keep pace with the steady growth of urban traffic and population growth taking place in the emirate.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, gave Sheikh Mohammed an insight into the RTA's strategies and plans for completing road and transport infrastructure projects up to 2020.

Al Tayer said that road projects carried out by the RTA on Dubai Greek from 2006 to 2012 crossed Dh30 billion.

Sheikh Mohammed instructed the RTA to speed up implementation of vital projects that facilitate free, smooth flow of vehicular traffic and ease traffic congestion, particularly in Dubai's key commercial and recreational destinations.

At the DTCM, Sheikh Mohammed toured the department’s offices located at Al Fattan Plaza in Deira and was briefed on the development projects and innovative ideas put forwarded by the department to market Dubai as a tourism hub regionally and globally.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed the importance of tourism marketing that is supported by credible information and signature attractions, especially for families, to make Dubai and the UAE a major attractive destination of choice in the Middle East and the favourite one internationally.

Sheikh Mohammed instructed the DTCM officials to maintain strong coordination and communication channels with other government stakeholders to boost the tourism industry sector as a key contributor to national economy.

Sheikh Mohammed was also informed by the DTCM Director-General Helal Al Marri about plans to increase visitors to the emirate from the present 10 million to 20 million before 2020 and double economic return from the tourism sector three times.

Sheikh Mohammed heard from Al Marri about a new system for classification of hotels and hotel apartments and the renting of these units.

Before Departing, Sheikh Mohammed approved the DTCM's new organisational structure, which grants national professionals more powers and functions in taking decision and development away from bureaucracy.
