NEC ratifies emirate-level committees

The National Election Commission gave approval on Sunday for the emirate-level committees set up to conduct the forthcoming elections to the Federal National Council (FNC).

The formation of these committees were carried out earlier in coordination with the Diwans of the Rulers of various emirates in the federation.

The ratification was given at the Election Commission's 5th meeting which was presided over by Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for FNC Affairs and Chairman of the commission.

At the meeting held at the Presidential Court, the commission discussed the media plan to convey the election message in a clear and professional way.

The commission also discussed the procedures regarding the lists of electoral bodies, the members of which are be named by the rulers of each emirate in the Union.

The details of the mechanism of electronic voting, which brings a qualitative addition to the election process, was also discussed. With this, the UAE will become the first Arab country to apply electronic voting in national elections.

Gargash expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Diwans of the Rulers to set up the electoral committees with personalities who have extensive experience and efficiency in the areas of public work. Gargash said that this will reflect positively on the electoral process.

The minister said that the commision seeks to implement the electoral process with the highest standards of professionalism and credibility to keep pace with the aspirations of the leadership and the people of the UAE, who viewed the elections as the cornerstone for the promotion of political participation in the country.

He added that the formation of the emirates committees is one of the key stages of the electoral process.
