President issues Resolution on formation of 'Higher National Committee for Year of Zayed'

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued Resolution No. 6 of 2017 establishing the "Higher National Committee for the Year of Zayed" under the chairmanship of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs .

Under the Resolution, the Committee shall be named "The Higher National Committee for the Year of Zayed" and shall have a number of ministers and representatives of Ministries and State Departments in its membership. The Committee shall be tasked with giving prominence to the significant role played by the country’s Founding Father, commemorating his heritage, and local and international achievements, and highlighting the unique standing that the late leader held in the hearts of every Emirati.

Pursuant to the Presidential Resolution, H.H. Sheikh Mansour has issued another Resolution on the formation and competencies of The Higher National Committee for the Year of Zayed.

The Committee shall have the following state figures as its members: Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future; Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Shamma bint Sohail Faris AlMazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs; along with a Representative of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; a Representative of Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development; a Representatives of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, a Representative of the Dubai Executive Council; and a Representative of the Executive Affairs Authority in his capacity as the Committee Secretary-General.

Under the Resolution, the Committee shall, as part of its core competencies, chart a general strategy premised to achieving the broad objectives of the Year of Zayed Initiative and following up their implementation. The Committee shall be, as well, in charge of approving the initiative's Official Logo and the announcement of all relevant key plans and programmes.

Local ad hoc committees shall be formed nationwide under the Resolution in coordination with local authorities concerned to ensure alignment of all federal and government efforts in consolidation of the initiative's objectives.

These local committees shall coordinate efforts with all departments concerned nationwide to launch relevant initiatives at the level of each emirate in alignment with the Year of Zayed Strategy, and evaluate any other initiatives by the private and public sectors and ensure their conformity to the Strategy. The committees shall also be tasked with developing regular reports in this respect and provide all needed direction to ensure full success for the Initiative.

It's noteworthy that to mark 100 years since the birth of the country’s Founding Father, 2018 has been declared the "Year of Zayed" by the His Highness President, Sheikh Khalifa.
