Work assessment is for all: Mohammed

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said today that assessment of performance is not confined to ministries and entities, rather it is a rule that is applicable to all.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that the Federal Cabinet and the Ministerial Council for Services (MCS) are conducting periodical review and assessment of their performance to take stock of achievements, correct any deficiencies, in found, and continuously improve performance and efficiency.

Sheikh Mohammed made his remarks as he chaired the Federal Cabinet meeting today at the Presidential Palace, which dedicated part of its works to review the annual performance of the two federal councils for 2012. Statistics showed that the two federal top bodies took more than 500 resolutions in 2012 regarding 13 key sectors like economic development, infrastructure, government sector development, policies, legislations and agreements, environment, energy, justice, security, media and foreign policy, etc.

Average resolutions taken in each session was 18.

Hailing the performance of the Ministerial Council for Services under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed said the Council has become a key pillar for decision making and strategic mechanism for developing strategic financial and services policies.

As he renewed his confidence in the council, Sheikh Mohammed urged its members to double their efforts in 2013, fully commit themselves to the President's national action programme and place the citizen at top of their priorities when taking decisions and devising development plans.

During the session, the Cabinet approved a federal draft law regarding security of sports infrastructure and events. The legislation defines requirements for protection of VIPs and better organisation of sports events to international standards. The pill calls for establishing a coordination council for security of sports facilities and events.

The meeting also gave its nod for incorporating a new company whose mandate is to operate and maintain trains and railways within the ''Union Railway'' project, being developed by the state-owned Etihad Rail. The new company will be established in partnership with a world rail operator. The company will provide an ideal opportunity for training Emiratis on best professional practices.

The UAE's national railway network is set to become operational by October 2013.

The Cabinet also approved the signing of an agreement on promotion of investment with Russia and another one on Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Mexico.

Mohammed receives Iranian Minister of Interior 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has received the Iranian Minister of Interior Mostafa Najjar and his accompanying delegation at Zabeel Palace.

The meeting was held with the attendance of Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed discussed with his guest bilateral relation between the United Arab Emirates and the Islamic Republic of Iran and touched on the status quo and means of strengthening the foundations of security and stability in the region.

The meeting also saw the attendance of Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, State Minister Reem Al Hashemi, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Abdullah Al Shebani, Commander General of Dubai Police Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Assistant Under Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Lt. General Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Ali, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Qamzi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Nasser Lakhraibani Al Nuaimi, a number of officials and Iranian Ambassador to the UAE Mohammad Reza Fayad.

Mohammed receives Mayor of London

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received the Mayor of London Boris Johnson at Zabeel Palace in presence of Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mohammed reviewed with his guest the historic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom with special focus on the strong ties between the cities of London and Dubai in the fields of tourism and Islamic economy.

Mayor Johnson praised the innovative model Dubai has built using its vast expertise in establishing Islamic-based financial institutions and bourses; a model that countries around the world aspire to. In this regard, Johnson also said that the city of London is preparing to host an international conference on Islamic economy in October.

The guest expressed profound admiration of the rich cultural scene in the city of Dubai and in the UAE.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Minister of State Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Director General of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Dubai Director of Protocol Dubai Director of Protocol and Hospitality Khalifa Saeed Suleiman and a number of officials in addition to the British Ambassador to the UAE.
