Groom assaulted, bride abducted, raped

Colombo - Anamaduwa police have commenced investigations to arrest a man and his friend, who are accused of abducted a bride after assaulting the groom, and then raping her, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.

The couple, who are from Colombo, got married about six days ago and had come to a relative’s house in Anamaduwa.

Later they had visited another relative in Puttalam for dinner and when they were travelling back to Anamaduwa at midnight in three-wheeler (rickshaw); a friend of the driver also travelled with them.

On the way, the driver and his friend had abducted the bride, assaulted the groom, and drove to a forest area where they brutally raped the bride.

The groom lodged a complaint at the Anamaduwa police on Tuesday (22) while the bride has been admitted to the hospital.
