Dubai welcomed 2016 with a 25-minute dazzling show of choreographed firework displays across the emirate.

About 2 million residents and visitors flooded the city to watch the fireworks.

Last year, the emirate set Guinness World Record ushering in the New Year.

This year was no different... Downtown Dubai packed in a dazzling show accompanied by LED light and laser beam displays.

At the stroke of midnight we witnessed themed-acts, each highlighting an inspiring facet of the emirate, with the crowning glory being the visual masterpiece - the Burj Khalifa!

Six months in the planning and having taken two months to set up, the combined multimedia and fireworks extravaganza saw close to 9 tonnes of fireworks dazzle from across 650 positions.

More than 100 specialist technicians were involved to host the spectacular show as it meandered across Downtown through Business Bay Canal, along Jumeirah coastline leading to the signature Burj Al Arab before climaxing in a 6-min-20 second crescendo at The Beach.

Screens were set up to telecast the event live at Kite Beach, Al Sufouh Beach and JBR.

Sharp at 12.09am at the backdrop of Arabian Gulf, Burj Al Arab, lit up with mesmerising illuminations enthralling revellers.

And then JBR (Jumeirah Beach Road) in all its glory stood out as the showstopper of the night with another string of fireworks at 12.16am.

The spectacular fireworks that took off at the Burj Khalifa ushering in the New Year was live streamed from four angles, including an aerial view from three drones, for a 3D effect.

The 'live' feeds were telecast over major international channels reaching billions of people around the world.

In fact, this year, people thronging the streets of New York were able to view Dubai NYE fireworks at Times Square, as it happened in the emirate.
