Hubby axes wife for seeking protection

Colombo: A man in Sri Lanka, drank poison after hacking his wife with an axe because she had complained about him.

Both the husband and wife are now in hospital, reported ‘Sunday Mawbima’.

The man had been arrested before on charges of domestic violence, when he had attacked his wife and was released on [Sri Lankan] Rs. 100,000 surety bail.

However, he continued his attacks and allegedly threatened to kill her. So the woman, along with their 15-year-old son went to police to seek help.

On their return, he axed her and consumed poison. The couple has three children.

Nawalapitiya police are investigating.
