Holders of the UAE national identity card must obtain a four-digit password so they can have their card renewed and can complete some transactions which require this number, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The password should be given by registration centres to all applicants while those who already have cards must report to those centres to obtain their own password, the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum said.
“The password is a four-digit number chosen by the applicant…those who have not obtained this password must go to the registration centres and get them,” the paper said, quoting Mohammed Al mazroui, executive director for the population record at the Emirates National Identity Authority (EIDA).
Mazroui said the password, which is not required for persons below 18 years, would allow holders to have their cards renewed and complete transactions required by some parties to verify the identity of the card holder.
“The password will provide protection and secrecy for the card…without this password, holders will not be able to sign some e-transactions.”
