Published
By Majorie van Leijen

New immigration options have appeared in Canada with the opening of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).

Independently from the Express Entry system, Alberta is welcoming immigrants and offering residency to those who successfully work and settle in the province.

The AINP opened on January 27, after 5 months of an intake stop.

The programme is divided into 3 stream, each with several categories.

In broad, those with a job offer at hand or with previous work experience in Alberta are candidates likely to succeed in obtaining residency in Alberta.

Employer-Driven Stream

The Employer-Driven Stream aims to attract candidates with a permanent, full-time job offer from an employer in Alberta. This job offer can be in a skilled occupation, semi-skilled occupation, or in the case of graduates of secondary education at a Canadian institute, NOC skill level O, A, or B occupations.

Strategic Recruitment Stream

The Strategic Recruitment Stream allows Alberta to attract newcomers who may benefit the provincial labour market over the long term. Engineers are in high demand, and there is a list of engineering occupations that are eligible for this category.

Other than that, candidates who have a valid trade certificate in a Compulsory or Optional Trade in Alberta issued or recognised by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT), and post-graduates of a Canadian institution who are now working in Canada may apply.

The AINP Self-Employed Farmer Stream

Alberta is welcoming self-employed farmers with prior farm management skills, willing to invest a minimum of [Canadian] $500,000 (Dh1.3 million) of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta, and submit a proposed business plan.
