Indian army helicopter crashes in Kashmir

An Indian army helicopter crashed in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, killing the pilot and co-pilot, a military official said.

The Indian Dhruv helicopter crashed in a forest in the northern Bandipora region while on a routine training flight late Wednesday, said army spokesman Lt. Col. Nitin N. Joshi.

The advanced light helicopters are widely used in Kashmir for rescue, relief and reconnaissance missions and they are capable of night flying.

Joshi said a probe has been ordered into the crash.

India and Pakistan each administer a portion of Kashmir but claim the region entirely.
