Indian maid's suicide bid foiled in Saudi

An Indian housemaid tied a rope around her neck, climbed a wooden box at her employer’s house in Saudi Arabia and threatened to jump down. But her suicide bid was foiled by police, who were called in by the maid’s Saudi employer.

Police spent a few minutes trying to dissuade the maid from jumping down before she agreed to their promise to help her.

“Sources close to the maid said she could have tried to end her life because she was mistreated by her employers,” Sabq Arabic language daily said in a report from the northern Saudi town of Hail.
