Emirati women receive considerable support from the UAE leadership in line with the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, being sustained by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as stated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region.

In a statement marking Emirati Women's Day, he said that Emirati women also enjoy support from Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Members of Supreme Council, their Highnesses and Rulers of the Emirates.

Sheikh Hamdan noted that recent years have seen the state's growing interest in various women issues in all fields and sectors.

"The vision of the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in establishing the GWU and bringing all women associations nationwide under its umbrella, was a major step towards achieving women empowerment based on a balance between modernity and authentic Arab and Islamic values," he said.

Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE’s women empowerment experience "is a role model for many countries of the region," and cited the significant role played by women in the UAE.

He added that women's participation in the decision-making process is not limited to the Federal National Council, but also includes assuming leadership positions in the state institutions as ministers and under-secretaries, and diplomats representing the state abroad, as well as joining the military and police fields, thanks to the political leadership's support.

Sheikh Hamdan urged the Emirati women to exert more efforts on equal footing with men to advance the cause of the progress of the UAE, besides their role in the education of young generations capable of safeguarding and maintaining this state.
