Magnitude-5.0 earthquake hits northeast Caribbean island

A magnitude-5.0 earthquake has struck northeast of the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, but there are no immediate reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey says the quake struck Saturday afternoon about 48 miles (77 kilometers) north-northeast of St Kitts. It was also felt in Anguilla and the French Caribbean island of St. Barts.

St Kitts Emergency Management Director Carl Herbert said he has received no reports of damage.

The quake occurred at a depth of 32 miles (52 kilometers).
