Maid under house arrest for 12 years

A Saudi man put his Asian housemaid under house arrest for nearly 12 years and prevented her from contacting her family at home, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom said on Thursday.

The employer in the southern province of Jazan also did not pay the unidentified maid for many years and refused to renew her visa, inflicting a huge overstay penalty on her.

“After interference by the National Human Rights Commission, police went to the man’s house and arrested him,” Kabar Arabic language daily said. “He will be forced to pay all her dues and rights.”
