Man reports his own out-of-wedlock affair
The Emirati man who turned himself in, confessing to police of having an out-of-wedlock affair with his cousin, has reportedly married his lady love.
The love-struck couple were facing stiff resistance from the girl’s family to get married and the 27-year-old civil defence official, identified as KS, thought that the announcement of their affair was the only way to solve the issue.
Apparently, it was the right move as the media reports say the cousins entered wedlock at a Shariah court in Dubai recently.
However, the case against the couple with charges of having consensual sex out of wedlock stands, with next hearing due on September 20.
Earlier, KS’ confession at Murraqqabat Police Station came as a last ditch effort to force his aunt, who was dead against the relationship, to marry her daughter off to him.
In his statement to the Dubai Public Prosecution, KS claimed:
"Following several fruitless attempts to convince my aunt to allow us to get married, my only solution was to report to the police that I had consensual sex with my cousin.
"Then police would have to open up a case against us… which would embarrass my aunt and her family and pressure them to consent to our marriage.
"I was aware that we would face imprisonment, but I was told that if we got married, the case might be dismissed."
The girl, identified as AK, though a willing partner in the affair was apparently forced by her family to rebuff his proposal. She was also forced to issue a statement saying she is not interested in marrying KS, however, the court records showed the reality is contrary to her statements.
KS said that he was aware of the punishment when he confessed to his crime, but he was counselled that this was the only way to marry his dream girl and that the case would lose steam once they tie the knot.
Now that they are married, it needs to be seen what the court decides on their fate.
