Man to pay Dh50k for torturing girlfriend

A civil court in Abu Dhabi ordered a man to pay Dh50,000 damages to his girlfriend after he was found guilty of beating her up and torturing her with a hot object.

A criminal court had earlier jailed the unnamed defendant four months after medical examination showed she was severely beaten up and tortured.
The man met the girl while she was visiting Abu Dhabi and became friends after he helped her in renting an apartment during her stay.

“Their friendship later developed into a relationship, which resulted in problems after the man could not stand the lifestyle the girl had in her home country,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said without identifying the girl.
