A Filipina who lost her job in Dubai returned home after leaving her three-month-old daughter to be supported by her father and brought up by a Sri Lankan woman.

The tragedy became complete when the baby was five- years-old and her father was jailed.

Dubai’s human rights authorities have decided to look after the child and at the same time help her father provided it is proven he is her biological father.

The baby was about three months old when her mother lost her job and returned to the Philippines, leaving the girl with her presumed father.

But since he has to go to work, a Sri Lankan woman decided to look after the girl by feeding her and letting her sleep at her home.

Brigadier Mohammed Al Murr, Director, Human Rights Department, said, "Things went this way until the baby’s father faced a court case when he issued a dud cheque.

“He lost his job as a cashier in an exchange firm and was forced to look for work until he decided to wash cars.

“He was taking his daughter with him during work until he was sentenced and sent to prison.

“The girl then had to face her destiny alone.”

Brigadier Al Murr said, "That's when the department decided to look after the child and sent her to the women and child care centre.

“It is also in touch with her father to verify if he is the biological father through DNA tests. In case he is the biological father, we will help him.”

40-year-old Indian woman claims Emirati father

Brigadier Al Murr said the department is considering another case involving a 40-year-old Indian woman, who says she is the daughter of an Emirati who divorced her mother when she was pregnant with her in the UAE.

He said the woman told the department that she was born in India and that her mother later tried to persuade her ex-husband to recognise his daughter but that he refused.

“She brought her birth certificate and other documents to prove she is the daughter of that Emirati. We are trying to tackle this issue,” he said.
