Bollywood’s leading stars have stepped up to show solidarity to neighbouring Pakistan over the Taliban attack on an army school in Peshawar that has seen over 100 people dead, many of them children.

Actress Priyanka Chopra was one of the first few to voice her rage, tweeting on her social media account: "Appalling! What kind of wimps hurt kids?"

Her former co-star Arjun Kapoor said: "Just reading about Peshawar; never felt more helpless. My prayers with everyone in Peshawar, all the children and parents. Sad, sad day."

Actor/singer/director Farhan Akhtar tweeted: "My heart has broken. The world failed those children in Peshawar. It’s a sad, sad day."

Raveena Tandon spoke as an outraged mother, saying: "Which religion in the name of God allows this? Any parents nightmare."

Singer-actress Sophie Choudry added: "Innocent kids are victims and yet again religion the sick excuse. Heart-broken and ashamed that this is the world we live in!"

Hrithik Roshan appealed to all his fans, saying: "Just a thought I had - atrocities in the world. We are not helpless. There’s something we all can do.

"The people who kill in anger feel a cause to do so, they feel anger for what they must’ve experienced in their lives. For them in their minds they are right. They feel justified.

"Anger is something we all feel, but we haven’t learned to resolve it with love. The extent of your anger determines the atrocity you want to inflict. We all are examples of this. We all are guilty of this."

He continued: "The atrocities around the world is just a manifestation of the anger at the individual level. You want to do something about the children who lost their lives in Peshawar, then wage a war against your own anger every time someone causes you pain.

"Every time injustice is done unto you, practice perspective, learn to resolve it with love. Watch your reaction. Don’t feel helpless by thinking you can’t do anything for the people who died.

"Make a change within today. Expressing your concern is not enough. Make that change at the core. Your core. And know that through that you have helped the world. Practice your own peace for a peaceful world."
