Coco’s endorsement worth Dh3m

He charges 35 million pesos (Dh3.16m) per senatorial candidate for endorsement during a campaign season.

And so talks have floated around that Representative Jack Enrile, who is now running for senator, has already paid the award-winning actor Coco Martin to endorse his campaign in the run-up to the May polls.

Now the congressman from the first district of Cagayan is denying that he has shelled out such a huge amount to commission the services of Martin, saying he couldn’t afford it.

These things got so many people scratching their heads, not so much as to Enrile, son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, not being able to afford Martin’s talent fee as to the latter’s denial he demands TF from political candidates seeking his endorsement.

Someone close to Martin was quick to defend the actor, saying that he does not indeed accept money from politicians he chooses to endorse, such as Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara Jr, the representative from the lone district of Aurora and also a senatorial bet for the coming election.

Martin allegedly chose to endorse Angara, son of Senator Edgardo Anagara Sr, as he believes in the congressman’s advocacy for educational reforms and social benefits for the elderly.

The actor grew up with his grandmother and attended public schools, so he has a soft spot for the elders and those who cannot afford to go to private schools.
