Evangelista has Heart: Stands by Chiz

MANILA — Heart Evangelista stands by her man.

In a statement released to entertainment writers, the actress, who turned 28 last February 14, said she was old enough to decide what’s good for her, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.

“This had happened to me and Jericho [Rosales],” she said, referring to the dashing actor who used to be her boyfriend. “At that time I gave way to my parents’ wishes because I wanted them to be happy. I’m the youngest in the family, so my parents are quite protective of me.”

But she said that those days are gone. “Now that I am 28-years old, I have the right to choose the person I will love and be with,” she said. But she was quick to add that she still loves and respects her parents.

She issued the statement following a write-up in a national daily pointing out her parents’ dislike of her current flame, the Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero.

“We all have the right to be happy,” Evangelista, who recently went with Escudero to the United States where she introduced him to her family, said. “I am now at a phase in my life where I am happy. So I hope my loved ones will be happy for me too.”

Earlier, the lovers belied rumours that Escudero was just using Evangelista, who enjoys popularity among the masses, for his reelection bid, and that he would dump her once he got inside the august halls of Congress again.

Yet others are now saying that Evangelista’s family actually wants her to marry someone rich (Escudero does not belong to a rich family), so he could level up to their social standing. They say that Evangelista’s parents are well off, and that they don’t want anything less for their daughter.

Besides, rumours have been going around town that the family of the actress doesn’t want Escudero for her, as he had separated from his wife of 10 years, and that he is much older than her.
