Filipino maid caught naked on Kuwait road

MANILA - A Filipino maid is undergoing a psychological test at a hospital in Kuwait City after she was caught running naked on the street of Al-Oyoun, reports reaching radio stations in Manila said.

Police are investigating the recent incident, which has scandalised the neighbourhood where the maid was working. They would want to know if her employer had something to do with the maid’s action.

Her employer said that he didn’t have any inkling if the maid had any mental illness, as she appeared normal and amiable when he hired her.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), meanwhile, said that President Benigno Aquino III has sent a letter to Saudi Arabia appealing for the stay of execution of Joselito Zapanta, a Filipino worker convicted of killing a Sudanese.

Zapanta was supposed to have been beheaded last November, but the family of his victim agreed that he be given another four months to produce the 44 million pesos (Dh4m) in blood money.

The original blood money being asked by the family was 55 million pesos (Dh4.97m), but was reduced by the Saudi government.

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh has opened a bank account in the Saudi capital with an initial deposit of 4 million pesos (Dh361,526), according to today’s issue of the tabloid Abante Tonite.

The initial deposit from the Philippine government and the contributions from the Zapanta family and their supporters amounted to 10 million pesos (Dh904,236).

Zapanta was given a death sentence by the Saudi Court of First Instance in April 2010 for killing his Sudanese landlord, who had annoyed him by collecting rent money from him repeatedly.
