Over two weeks after 51-year-old Dubai Filipina businesswoman was found murdered in her car in Sharjah, her family finally were allowed to see her body on Saturday.

“For the first time, since we heard the news of her death, we saw her,” narrated Liza, slain Lorna Lim Varona’s youngest daughter.

“It’s finally sinking in.”

Liza, her older sister and father Pablo went to the forensic lab on Saturday at 11.30am. “It was just the three of us. My older brother has gone to Philippines to arrange for mom’s funeral,” she added.

The funeral service is planned at the Holy Trinity Church, near their home in Philippines.

“Since Saturday, I keep on remembering what happened to her. I still see her. She’s always on my mind.”

Liza added that they’ve grown closer as a family since the tragedy.

“We (her sister and her) are always together. Whenever I am having a hard time I get strength from them.”

The girls are also ensuring their dad is in good health. “It’s tough for him. But he is coping. We are doing our best to make him strong.”

On Sunday, the family offered prayers in Lorna’s memory at the St Mary’s Church.

Although the family is still unaware about when they will get the final clearance, and are allowed to take Lorna back to the Philippines, they are hopeful the wait won’t be too long.

“We don’t know what’s happening already. There’s no definite time.

They don’t give us any information,” she added.

“I am trying to get Lorna’s body home sooner,” Lorna’s husband Pablo said. “We still don’t have any information about when we can bring her home, but I am hoping it is sometime this week.”

Regarding the progress of the criminal proceedings against the man accused of murder, Liza is unsure when justice will be done.

Lorna is survived by her husband, and four children – Lourdes, Luke, Louis and Liza

She was reported missing on August 26.

The Sharjah Police discovered her body, stuffed in a bag, in her abandoned Jaguar in Sharjah’s industrial area nearly a week later.

It is a little over two weeks since she was murdered, allegedly by her “close friend” over borrowed money amounting to Dh250,000.

The Filipino has since been arrested and is undergoing investigation.

Liza adds that there was more work to be done regarding her bank accounts, but all were put on hold until the final clearance.

With no date for a prayer service in place just yet, Liza said it will be decided once the initial work has been completed.
