A government executive and his wife were hacked to death on Saturday in their home in Quezon province, 136 kilometres southeast of Metro Manila, for still unknown reasons, radio reports said.
Elmer Alentajan, an engineer working at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the capital Lucena City, and wife Generosa, both 53, sustained hack wounds in their heads and bodies.
Chief Inspector Manny Calma, the city police commander, said the police have yet to establish the motives in the dastardly act, but stressed that there was no forced entry into the house and it was also not a case of robbery.
He added that the police are expecting to get information from the couple’s daughter, who is still in shock after the killings, which included the couple’s dog.
It wasn’t clear whether the daughter had witnessed the crime or was just somewhere inside the house or away during the killings.
Calma stressed that the killings must have transpired between 7pm on Friday and 5am on Saturday, while the couple’s neighbour, Marcelino
Arquilita, discovered the bodies at noontime of April 27.
The wife had a big hack wound at the back of her neck, making her look almost beheaded, while her husband, who was assistant maintenance chief of DPWH-2nd Engineering District Office, had numerous hack wounds all over his body.
Initial investigation conducted by the police revealed that the couple knew the killer or killers, as no door locks and windows were broken at and no valuables were taken from the Alentajan house at Villa Loreto Subdivision, in Lucena City’s Barangay Kulapi.
Calma said the master’s bedroom was in disarray, as if the perpetrator or perpetrators of the crime were looking for something.
