Will Sarah Geronimo join the ranks of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi in the world pedestal of singing talents?

Or, what do you think are her chances of beating Bruno Mars, David Bowie, Justin Bieber or Justin Timberlake for some international singing awards?

Yes, the Philippines’ pop princess has got a nod from another international award-giving body—the World Music Awards, where she is nominated in three categories: World’s Best Female Artist, World’s Best Live Act and World’s Best Entertainer of the Year.

It may be recalled that Geronimo was nominated for the Favourite Asian Act at the 2013 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards held at Los Angeles, California on March 23, where she lost to Chinese singer Han Geng. Her other opponents were the South Korean rapper and songwriter Psy and the Malaysian singer Shila Amzah.

Founded in 1989 and based in Monte-Carlo, the annual World Music Awards, which is under the patronage of His Serene Highness Albert II, Prince of Monaco, said it honours recording artists based on worldwide sales figures provided by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and online voting.

The award-giving body also said that it’s the IFPI that first selects nominees by conducting enquiry into sales figures and record certifications from all major territories. The nominees are then announced on the website of the World Music Awards, so that fans all over the world can cast their online votes for their favourites.

For this year’s World’s Best Female Artist, Geronimo is facing such legendary performers as the English singer-songwriter Adele, the American singer-songwriter and dancer Beyonce, the Canadian superstar Dion, the world’s pop queen Madonna and the American entertainer Britney Spears.

In World’s Best Live Act category, she is up against such formidable opponents as the American hard-rock band Aerosmith, the British rock band Coldplay, the Irish rock band U2, the American singer-songwriter and record producer Mars, whose mother is a Filipino, and Psy.

For the World’s Best Entertainer of the Year, she is pitted against music giants Bowie, an English musician, actor, record producer and arranger; Bieber, a Canadian pop musician; Timberlake, an American singer-songwriter, actor and entrepreneur; Katy Perry, an American recording artist, songwriter and actress; and Kelly Clarkson, an American pop-rock singer, songwriter and occasional actress.

Among the past Legend Awards winners in the World Music Awards were Diana Ross, an actress and former vocalist of the American band The Supremes; Tina Turner, an American singer, dancer and actress; Dion; Bowie; the late Jackson, king of pop; the British singer-songwriter Stewart; the American rock band Bon Jovi, whose lead singer is its namesake Jon Bon Jovi; and the ultimate diva, Carey.
