An Emirati policeman and a wanted Indian were awarded three months in jail for offering and accepting bribe.

Each were ordered to pay Dh1,000 fine and the Indian convict will be deported after receiving his jail term.

Head of the Interpol Wanted Section at Dubai Police testified that YSQ, police staff was assigned to prepare files of those who are wanted, in coordination with the concerned authorities, once they are arrested.

YSQ started preparing a report about JSO who was arrested by the Police. Later Police received a tip off about YSQ riding a Range Rover of JSO. Answering a question whether the force prohibits any sale and purchase between police staff and wanted people, the officer answered affirmatively and said that the regulations in this regard are made clear to all staff in the section.

“YSQ has got the car as a bribe because he is responsible about preparing his file. Should he wanted to buy the car, he would have done it…he has been driving the car since two to three months without processing ownership transfer,” testified the officer.

The two denied the accusation and claimed that they were in a selling-buying operation and not in bribe racket.

The court found the two guilty for bribe charge and convicted them.
