The PROs would be soon able to collect the ID cards of their company staff as the Emirates Identity Authority works to plans to stop delay in the delivery of cards. The decision is part of an attempt to redesign the entire mechanism and change the way the EIDA functions. The changes in the system will expedite the delivery process of the card by ensuring pwople receive the IDs within ten days of filing the application, Gulf News quoted Dr Ali Al Khoury, Director-General of Emirates ID, as saying on the sidelines of the Cards Middle East, the region's largest exhibition cum conference on cards, payment and ID exhibition for banks, government, telecoms and retailers. The two day-event at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre ends on Wednesday. The current system has created a huge backlog, creating delays in delivering cards to applicants, which has prompted the authorities to rework the mechanism. The new system, in which the cards would be printed within five days of registration and delivered in the next five day, would be effective in two months. Dr. Khoury said that currently around 70 per cent of the cards are printed within five days moment and handed over to the distribution companies, however, delays are caused in the process of delivery. He hinted that Emirates Post, which is currently distributing about 50,000 cards a week through their wide network of post offices across the country, will have greater role in delivery of cards in the redesigned process. The decision has come following complaints by applicants about inordinate delays.
