$1.6m constipated camel has rectum surgery

A racing camel with a value of more than SR six million ($1.6 million) had undergone a surgery in Saudi Arabia to remove parts of the rectum found to be gangrenous following bad constipation.

Saudi vets at King Faisal Hospital in the eastern province of Ihsa said the operation lasted around one hour to remove the 20-cm decaying parts.
 
"The operation was successful and all swelling and gangrenous parts were removed,” Sabq newspaper said, quoting hospital officials.

It said the six-year-old camel from Oman, a popular racing animal, had a value of at least SR six million before the operation.
