3 Saudi cops punished for assaulting man

Saudi Arabia’s religious police demoted a branch head and confined two other cops to office work to punish them for assaulting a local man in a public place.

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice said the head of the branch in the capital Riyadh was demoted to a normal employee while his two aides were transferred outside Riyadh and barred from field work.

The Commission took the punitive measures against the three after newspapers published a report that a Saudi man was injured after he was assaulted by the three Commission members at a shopping mall.

“The security cameras showed the man committed an offence which required the three members to stop him,” the Commission said.

“But the three members committed more than one mistake when they dragged the citizen to their office, searched his mobile phone and assaulted him.”
