Al-Arabiyya gets its first female Saudi newscaster

A Saudi journalist has joined the newscast team in the satellite news TV channel Al-Arabiyya to become the first female news broadcaster from the conservative Gulf Kingdom to join the famous Arabic language channel.

Tahani Al Jahni appeared on the screen of the Saudi-owned Al-Arabia television on Wednesday after moving to the channel’s headquarters in Dubai from the Saudi Middle East Broadcasting Company (MBC) television.

The Saudi Arabic language daily Sada said Al Jahni began its media career in the mass circulation Saudi daily Al Bilad in 2004 before moving to Al Madinah Arabic language newspaper in the kingdom in 2006. She then travelled to Lebanon in 2007 and joined LBC channel before moving to MBC in Dubai.
