Arab singer held for holding mixed-gender parties

Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested a well-known Arab singer for holding parties attended by both men and women at a restaurant in the conservative Gulf kingdom, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice raided the restaurant in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah and arrested the singer along with three female singers and several men and women.

Saqb Arabic language daily said the singer and the others arrested would remain in detention pending their trial.

It did not identify the signer but said it keeps his name and described him as a well-known signer who resides in Saudi Arabia. “He is one of the famous singers in the region and has won the title ‘Star of the Gulf’ at a recent famous TV singing programmes in the Gulf.”
