Kuwaiti authorities arrested an army colonel for failing to pay back a debt of KD43,000 ($146,000) to a solider who works in his department, the Arabic language daily Alanba said on Monday.
The unnamed colonel had forced the soldier to borrow the sum from his bank and lend it to him but refused to repay the debt when it was due, it said.
“A court ordered the colonel to pay the soldier but he again refused, prompting it to issue an arrest warrant against him,” the paper said.
It quoted the soldier’s lawyer, Hamidi al Subai, as appealing for defence minister Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak to “do justice for the poor solider against his boss.”
