Residents going to a mosque in a small Saudi town stumbled across a five-month-old boy wrapped in light clothes and left with a letter saying he is not illegitimate.

The hand-written letter said the boy’s family had been killed in a road accident abroad and asked those who find the baby to hand him over to a local Prince.

Newspapers said the baby was found alive and in good condition at a mosque in the northern town of Tabuk on Friday.

“This baby belongs to Shamer tribe. Don’t worry, he is not illegitimate as his family was killed in an accident abroad nearly three weeks ago,” said the letter, signed by an indentified person calling himself “a benevolent person”.

“Please hand him to the Prince of Tabuk so he will decide who will take care of him. It seems he is around five- months-old and don’t worry, he is not illegitimate,” added the letter, which was published by Sabq newspaper.

The paper said Tabuk’s Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, a member of the Saudi royal family, instructed authorities to take care of the baby.
