Biggest offshore wind farm starts producing power

The DONG Energy - E.ON - Masdar alliance announced that the wind turbines of the London Array project began to rotate and generate electricity on Monday.

UAE's Masdar owns 20 per cent of the London Array, the world's largest offshore wind farm situated 20km off the east coast of Britain.

London Array project has a 630MW power generation capacity and once fully operational will boast 870 MW capacity.

The first 151 wind turbines of the London Array project became operational on Monday and the remaining 24 will join the farm by the end of the year.

Masdar CEO Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said that the London Array project is an achievement for the company and its partners.

"This giant project reflects our commitment to developing renewable energy projects at the level of large utilities in different parts of the world", he said.
