A 16-year-old Saudi boy could be beheaded unless he pays SR28 million ($7.7 million) diya (blood money) to the family of another boy he killed in a fight nearly three years ago, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The parents of Samih Al Ruwaili said they had so far raised around SR10 million and appealed for public help as the clock began ticking for his execution next month, the Arabic language daily Sharq said.

“We have managed to get SR10 million…I don’t know how we will pay all this sum in just a few weeks,” said his father, Ayed Al Ruwaili.

“His mother never stops crying and praying to God to save our son…I do not have all this money and pray to God that some one will help us.”

Samih stabbed the other boy to death during a scuffle in the northern Saudi town of Sakaka. He was sentenced to death in line with Islamic law but the victim’s relatives offered to pardon him in return for SR29 million.

Sharq said the court set Ramadan 26 as the date for Samih’s beheading.

Woman dies while praying

A Saudi woman in her 20s died while she was praying at home as her husband waited to take her to the university, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

After a delay of nearly an hour in the morning, her husband decided to go into her room but she did not answer the door, Sharq Arabic language daily said.

“He pushed his way into the room and found that she was not moving…when he checked her, she was dead in a genuflection position,” the paper said without mentioning where the couple lives in Saudi Arabia.

An Asian housemaid waited for her employers to go out at night, climbed out of the toilet’s window and jumped down to her death from the 14th floor.

Police said the maid, in her 30s, died of impact instantly, ruling out criminal act as she was on her own in the apartment in the eastern town of Dammam.

The employing family called by the police just after the incident identified the maid, according to Sabq newspaper, which did not make clear if the unnamed maid was locked up in the apartment at night.

Man sues doctor over baby’s sex

A Saudi man decided to sue a female doctor who mistakenly informed him that his wife gave birth to a boy, who turned out later to be a girl.

After receiving the news, the man rushed to see his wife and the new son at King Khaled Hospital in the western town of Al Kharj but he got a shock.

“He found that the baby is a girl….he accused the management of swapping the baby but DNA tests showed the girl is his daughter,” Kabar daily said, adding that the husband decided to file a suit against the doctor.
