Briton, others held in Saudi over booze party

Saudi Police arrested a British man and several other people after raiding an apartment where they were having a mixed-gender party with dancing and alcoholic drinks.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the Gulf Kingdom’s most influential law enforcement authority, stormed the flat owned by a Sudanese woman in the capital Riyadh and rounded up five men and four girls.

Sabq Arabic language newspaper said the Briton was drunk when he was seized along with a Lebanese man, two Jordanians, a Sudanese man, and four women, including a 19-year-old Saudi girl, two Palestinians and Ethiopian.

A woman managed to escape and is believed to be Italian, the report said.

“Police sources said the Sudanese woman who organized the party was also arrested. She was charging each guest SR160 (Dh160) to enter the party.”
