A Kuwaiti appeal court has acquitted a citizen sentenced to death in connection with drug smuggling after a cash machine camera disproved police charges, the Arabic language daily 'Alanba' reported on Wednesday.
A criminal court in Kuwait City had earlier sentenced the unidentified defendant to death after police said they seized him smuggling nearly 50 kg of hashish concealed in a boat coming from Iran, the paper said.
“The appeal court acquitted him after it saw a film shot by the camera fitted to a bank cash teller machine showing the man was at the bank at the time of the drugs seizure,” it said.
